Highlights from Kecskemét’s Musical Events, July 2019

In July 2019, Kecskemét hosted several notable musical events that showcased both the city’s rich musical heritage and contemporary compositions. Here are two significant events that stood out due to their focus on education and innovation in music.

Screening of “Kodály is for Everyone” Documentary

On July 18th, the Hirös Agóra Youth Center’s courtyard hosted the screening of the documentary “Kodály is for Everyone.” This film explores Zoltán Kodály’s influential approach to music education. I was featured in the documentary as both an interviewee and a teacher, providing insights into the application of Kodály’s methods.

National Youth Choir Concert at the Piarist Church

On July 24th, the National Youth Choir performed at the Piarist Church, highlighting a range of compositions including my own work, “The Night.” This piece, written for the National Youth Choir, was performed in an environment with excellent acoustics, allowing the audience to fully experience its intricate harmonies and thematic depth.

These events were key in demonstrating the continuing impact of Kodály’s educational philosophy and the evolution of music composition in Hungary. They provided a platform for discussing traditional and contemporary musical forms, and for presenting new works to an engaged audience.
